Best of Backroads Vol. V
Volume V consists of four episodes of the Backroads of Montana series.
In episode 17 "Wheels and Wings" we see aviary art in Moccasin, look back at Montana's first airmail in Great Falls, visit a local history center and historic bridge near Sidney, travel to Snake Butte near Ft. Belknap and meet a wheelwright in Deer Lodge. William Marcus hosts the program from the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman.
In episode 18 "Seeds and Weeds" Marcus introduces us to a unique art form that uses seeds from the Sidney area, takes us to a weed roundup near Choteau, introduces us to a Loma woman who is the curator of the House of 1000 Dolls and shows us what Zoo Montana in Billings is doing to enrich the lives of their wild animals. William Marcus hosts the program from the Charles M. Bair Family Ranch and Museum near Martinsdale.
In episode 19 "Alder Gulch to Plentywood" host William Marcus takes us along for a tour of the well-preserved Christenot family mill near Alder Gulch and on a ride on a steam engine between Virginia City and Nevada City. After a stop to tempt our sweet teeth at the Parrot Confectionary in Helena, we marvel at snow geese flocking in thousands to Freeze out Lake, near Choteau, and at the creations of Plentywood inventor Pat Tange. Finally, we tour the historic Northern Pacific railroad depot in Livingston.
In episode 20 "Augusta to Wisdom" William Marcus hosts from the C.M. Russell Museum in Great falls, and introduces us to the a Big Hole Valley family that’s been haying together for generations, to the sounds of fall in Montana as elk bugle near Moiese , and to a small-town performer who’s criss-crossed Montana with his guitar for more than 70 years. Then we learn the history of a one-of-a-kind bride near Augusta, and meet the woman who reports the news, all the news, from Sweet Grass.
